MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is preparing for two key conference matches this weekend at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The No. 21 Mountaineers (6-3-3, 3-1-1) play host to ninth-ranked Marquette (11-1-1, 4-1-0) on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles currently hold the second-place slot in the BIG EAST’s Division A while WVU is in third. The match will be the first-ever meeting between the schools and is West Virginia’s fourth match versus a ranked opponent this season. Like the Mountaineers, Marquette brings a three-match win streak into the contest.
South Florida travels to Morgantown for its first-ever meeting with West Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. The Bulls (5-4-2, 0-3-2) are still seeking their first BIG EAST victory.
Five Mountaineer seniors: Karrie Hutchins, Marisa Kanela, Mollie Merkel, Rachael Minnich and Kambria Riggins will be playing their last regular season home match versus South Florida.
West Virginia heads into the weekend matches looking to preserve its 5-0-0 home record and post an undefeated home slate for the first time since 2002.
West Virginia closes out the 2005 regular season with four conference road games. The Mountaineers travel to Villanova for a 4 p.m., match on Friday, Oct. 14 and to Georgetown for a 1 p.m., match on Sunday, Oct. 16 before closing out the season at Connecticut (Oct. 21) and Providence (Oct. 23).
