MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men’s soccer player Nick Noble has been named BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week for the second time this season after his record breaking performance last week in a pair of matches.
The Damascus, Md., native tallied shutouts against American and Providence this week to earn his ninth and 10th of the season, breaking the former record of nine set in 1989 and 1998.
As of last week the Mountaineers ranked 20th in the nation in shutout percentage due to Noble who has played all 1570 minutes in net for the team this season. The junior currently leads all BIG EAST goalkeepers in shutouts, is tied for second in saves (67) with Providence’s Chris Konopka and ranks third in goals against average (0.75).
Only former Mountaineer goalkeeper John Capon has earned more shutouts than Noble’s 24 in a career at WVU as he had 28 from 1978-81.
Noble and the Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host No. 3 UConn at the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
