MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s soccer freshman Ashely Banks has been named a second team freshman All-American by SoccerBuzz.
The BIG EAST’s co-rookie of the year, Banks helped the Mountaineers to a 15-6-0 record and their fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament by scoring eight goals and dishing out eight assists for 24 points in her rookie campaign. Her efforts made her the highest scoring freshman in West Virginia history.
Banks’ selection makes her the third Mountaineer in women’s soccer history to be named a freshman All-American by SoccerBuzz. Former Mountaineer standout Lisa Stoia (2000, 2nd team) and current WVU goalkeeper Lana Bannerman (2003, honorable mention) were the previous two honorees.
The Annandale, Va., native, started 20 of 21 games for West Virginia at outside midfield.
