MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Two West Virginia University women’s soccer players have been invited to the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., for a Under-19 inter-regional event on Jan. 19-22.
As members of the Olympic Development (ODP) region I team, Mountaineers Kim Bonilla and Lisa DuCote were invited to the weekend festival where the four regional squads will compete against each other. Under-19 and Under-21 national team coaches will be on hand looking to select a pool of players for both teams.
Bonilla played in 18 matches in her rookie season at West Virginia. The Dumfries, Va., native scorred four goals and added one assist for nine points on the year.
DuCote, a native of Fredericksburg, Va., started the first match of the year for the Mountaineers before suffering a knee injury that sidelined her for the next nine contests. She rebounded to appear in nine matches during her freshman season.
“This is a great experience for these two talented young women,” commented head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the national team coaches. I’m certain they will put forth their best effort in hopes that they will be selected to represent our country on the U-19 national team.”
