Football: Harris Claims Big East Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A day after being named national offensive player of the week, West Virginia’s Kay-Jay Harris was also honored by the Big East conference as its offensive player of the week.
Harris wins the award after running for a conference and school-record 337 yards with four touchdowns in West Virginia’s 56-23 victory over East Carolina last Saturday. Harris carried the ball 25 times and averaged 13.5 yards per carry. He scored on runs of 76, 51, 5 and 2 yards. Harris ran for a school record 223 yards in the first half including a quarter-best 168 yards in the second quarter.
Rutgers’ Ryan Neill was named the league’s defensive player of the week while Rutgers kicker Jeremy Ito converted four field goals to help the Knights to a 19-14 season-opening victory over Michigan State.
West Virginia returns to action this weekend to take on Central Florida in a 6 pm game on Saturday, Sept. 11, in Orlando.
