Washington, D.C. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team lost on the road to BIG EAST rival Georgetown 2-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
The Mountaineers (5-4-0) led the Hoyas (5-5-0) through the first half 1-0. Sophomore Jarrod Smith gave WVU the lead in the 14th minute when he took a pass from Andy Wright at the top of the penalty box and buried his third goal of the season past Georgetown goalkeeper Andrew Keszler.
The Hoyas roared back in the second half. In the 63rd minute Ricky Schramm collected a missed shot by one of his teammates and beat Mountaineer goalkeeper Nick Noble.
Just over twenty minutes later Georgetown's Kaiser Chowry would provide the gam-winner. Teammate Brent Plumley served a ball to the senior off of a free kick, which Chowry booted in.
Both goalkeepers stayed busy throughout the match. Noble recorded five saves for the Mountaineers, while Keszler turned away seven shots for the Hoyas.
The loss drops WVU's road record to 0-4-0 for the season. However, the team stands just one win away from eclipsing its total win total in 2003.
The Mountaineers return home for a pair of weekend home matches beginning on Friday, Oct. 1, when it hosts St. Francis at 4 p.m. WVU then faces Longwood on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 3:30 p.m. as part of Super Soccer Sunday.
