Volleyball: WVU Wins Fourth Straight at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH – The West Virginia University volleyball team (8-6) notched its fourth straight road victory with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-25, 32-30) win over Duquesne on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh.
Fresh off an MVP performance at last weekend’s Marist Invitational, junior Stephanie Zolna tallied a team-high 15 kills to along with seven digs to lead West Virginia over the Dukes.
Julie Hockenson added 12 kills, Kelly Mullins recorded 11 and Alison Zemanski notched 10 to go along with nine digs and six serving aces. Brandice Studnicka quietly registered 41 assists to go along with a team-high 13 digs.
Mullins added 11 digs for the Mountaineers while Aurora Ebert-Santos recorded 10 of her own.
Leading Duquesne was Diana Wuebker who recorded 13 kills and 10 digs. The Duke’s leader defensively was Karisa Decker who notched 11 digs. Duquesne’s overwhelming leader in assists was Kristin Garnett who tallied 38 on the evening.
West Virginia returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Loretto, Pa., to open play in the St. Francis Invitational. The Mountaineers play Binghamton on Friday, Oct. 1, at 4:30 p.m. before taking part in a doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 2, against Canisius (10 a.m.) and St. Francis (7 p.m.)
