MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia used a 460-yard effort to down Central Florida 45-20 Saturday night at the Orlando Citrus Bowl. It was the second straight game this year that Rodriguez’ offense has gone over the 400-yard mark and the Mountaineers have now produced 1,081 yards in their two wins against East Carolina and UCF.

The Mountaineers have now had at least 300 yards total offense in nine of their last 10 regular season games. The only occasion West Virginia failed to top 300 yards during its last 10 regular season games came in last year’s regular season finale when WVU managed just 299 yards of total offense against Temple.
Here are more notes from Saturday’s 45-20 win:
Marshall has now moved into a tie with Dan Kendra for sixth place at WVU with 31 touchdown passes. The Pittsburgh native is fifth in total offense (5,325), tied with Major Harris for eighth in pass attempts (586) and he’s ninth in career passing yards (4,040).
Marshall is also fifth in career touchdowns responsible for with 52 and is second among WVU quarterbacks in career rushing with 1,285 yards. Remarkably, Marshall has accounted for his 52 touchdowns in just 32 games, an average of 1.625 TDs per game for his career.
Speaking of touchdowns, junior wide receiver Chris Henry’s two TD catches Saturday against UCF now gives him 13 TD grabs in 15 career games. Henry is now eighth on the WVU list and needs two more to equal Danny Buggs for seventh place with 15.
West Virginia’s 56 points in the opener against East Carolina and 45 points against Central Florida represent the most points scored in a two-game span under Rodriguez at West Virginia. The prior high was 93 points scored in games against Rutgers and Syracuse in 2001.
Syracuse, Cincinnati and Rutgers are each 1-1.
Louisville’s two wins have come against Kentucky and Army and the Cardinals could crack the Top 25 in the coming weeks if it can get wins over Tulane and North Carolina.
After easily depositing Murray State in its season opener, UConn had more than it wanted against ACC cellar-dweller Duke Saturday in Hartford. UConn pulled out a 22-20 come-from-behind victory against the Blue Devils to remain perfect on the season.
Syracuse rebounded from its 51-0 whitewash at Purdue last Sunday by defeating Buffalo 37-17 yesterday. Cincinnati played Ohio State tough in the season opener and bagged a nice win against Miami (Ohio) yesterday to move to 1-1.
Rutgers began the season in style by downing Michigan State, 19-14, but the Knights had a tough time forgetting about that one yesterday, losing to I-AA New Hampshire 35-24. New Hampshire won the game by tallying the final three scores of the contest.
The Pitt offense struggled mightily against MAC bottom feeder Ohio in a 20-3 win over the Bobcats yesterday in its opener at Heinz Field. The Panthers were supposed to open last Monday against future Big East foe South Florida but the game was postponed due to Hurricane Frances. South Florida won its opener against Tennessee Tech yesterday.
