Men's Soccer: Late Goal Lifts WVU

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior Devon McTavish and freshman Dan Stratford each scored to lead the West Virginia University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Liberty Fridayat the Virginia Tech Classic in Blacksburg, Va.
The Mountaineers and Flames went into the halftime break scoreless with neither team even forcing the other team's keeper to make a save.
However, just like against Mount St. Mary's mlast Sunday, WVU came out firing in the second half. Just over three minutes after the halftime break McTavish took a pass from senior Aaron Pitchkolan and buried in the net for his third goal of the season.
The Flames did not go silent in the game though, as freshyman Kyle Cupid hit forward Darryl Roberts with a pass that Roberts goy by Mountaineer goalkeeper Nick Noble in the 59th minute.
With less than two minutes left Stratford collected a shot that hit off the post and knocked it in to give WVU the lead for good, and their second win of the season.
Noble recorded one save in the match, while Flames goalkeeper K.J. Sabotchick tallied four in the losing effort.
The Mountaineer offense dominated in shots, putting up 17 to Liberty's five.
WVU faces Virginia Tech in their next and final game of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m.
