MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's soccer team received a preseason Top 25 nod from SoccerBuzz Wednesday afternoon.
The women's soccer-only magazine ranked the Mountaineers No.20 in this year's preseason poll.
The ranking marks the 21st week in a row, dating back to September 23, 2002, that West Virginia has been in the Top 25 of at least one major poll.
Four BIG EAST schools, including West Virginia, made the Top 25 list, with Notre Dame (No.2) being the highest-ranked conference team. Connecticut (No.9) and Villanova (No.25) were the others. Boston College was tabbed 30th.
The Mountaineers will face four teams in 2004 who received preseason rankings. Notre Dame, Villanova and Virginia travel to Morgantown, while WVU faces Boston College on the road.
West Virginia will open its 2004 campaign on Friday, Aug. 27, with a 7:30 p.m., match against Kentucky at the UK Invitational. The Mountaineers' home opener will be on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., against Purdue with dedication of Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium coming as the first part of a double-header with the men's team on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m.
