RALEIGH, N.C. -- The 21st ranked West Virginia University gymnastics team scored a 195.275 en route to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by North Carolina State.
The Mountaineers, despite not qualifying for nationals, tied the second-highest WVU regional team score, just missing the Mountaineer record of 195.475 set in 2000 at Minnesota.
Two Mountaineers also set individual WVU NCAA regional records in the meet.
Freshman Janáe Cox set a WVU NCAA regional all-around record with a 39.35, surpassing TeShawne Jackson's mark of 39.25 set at the 2001 Southeast Regional in Morgantown. Cox finished fifth overall in the all-around and therefore advanced to the National Championship as one of the top two all-around finishers who did not advance to nationals with their respective team.
Sophomore Gretchen Richter set a West Virginia University NCAA regional record with a 9.9 on balance beam, breaking the old mark of 9.875 set by Danielle Lilly at the 1998 Southeast Regional in Athens, Ga.
West Virginia began the evening on floor exercise and tallied a 48.775 team score, which placed the Mountaineers in a tie with Nebraska for third after Rotation I. UCLA tallied a 49.425 on beam to take the early lead, followed by Maryland which tallied a 49.875 on vault. The Huskers were on bars to open the meet.

After two rotations, the Mountaineers had a 97.825 team score as they entered a bye for rotation III.
When the third rotation reached its conclusion, WVU found itself in fourth place trailing UCLA (98.75), Nebraska (97.95) and North Carolina (97.85). NC State was in fifth (97.8) and Maryland rounded out the first three rounds with a 96.9. Only .15 points separated fifth place from second.

WVU was paced by Bartgis' 9.875 and Nagle's 9.85. Cox tallied a 9.775, sophomore Alyssa DeSantis scored a 9.75 and freshman Sabrina Noonan notched a 9.65.
In the meet's fifth rotation and West Virginia's last of the evening, the Mountaineers were forced to count a fall on beam after Nagle and freshman Amie Bouchier fell as they mounted the apparatus. Richter paced the Mountaineer beam score with her 9.9 while DeSantis and Bartgis each scored a 9.825.
