Baseball: WVU Plays Three in Metrodome

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to participate in the 20th annual Dairy Queen Baseball Classic on March 5-7.

The University of Minnesota will host the Dairy Queen Classic (DQC) a the HHH Metrodome, home of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins. This year’s DQC was chosen by Baseball America as one of the top six tournaments to watch in 2004.
West Virginia is schedule for three games with the opener set against BIG TEN member Minnesota on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. (CST). The Mountaineers battle ACC power and 22nd-ranked Florida State on Saturday at 12 Noon (CST). WVU closes the tournament with an 11 a.m. (CST) contest against BIG XII power and No. 14 ranked Nebraska.
“We’ve been looking forward to this tournament for four or five years now,” says head coach Greg Van Zant. “It is one of the most prestigious tournaments in all of collegiate baseball. This is a great opportunity for our guys to play against some of the best teams in the country. The competition this weekend will only make us better.”
The games with Minnesota and Nebraska mark the first meeting between the schools. FSU holds a slight 3-2 advantage over WVU all-time. Nebraska won all three games a year ago to win the 2003 DQC.
