Women's Track: WVU Finishes Strong at Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – The West Virginia University women’s track team put together a total of seven BIG EAST qualifying performances on Mar. 26-27 at the Raleigh Relays and Stanford Invitational.
Junior Tara Struyk was the only Mountaineer to compete in the Stanford Invitational. The Edmonton, Alberta, native finished eighth in the 10,000 meters with a BIG EAST and NCAA qualifying time of 34:14.93.
In Friday’s action of the Raleigh Relays, West Virginia’s Junique Morris and Jessica Czaikowski achieved BIG EAST qualifying times in the 100 meter prelims. Morris finished with a time of 12.10 (19th) while Czaikowski crossed the line in 12.13 (23rd). Senior Ciara Chic (49th) and freshman Shani Boone (60th) finished with times of 12:47 and 12:56 respectively.
In the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles, Czaikowski came through with her second BIG EAST qualifying time of the evening. The Tottenham, Ontario, native finished 11th with a time of 14.27. Freshman Abbie Stechschulte finished 32nd with a time of 14.91 while sophomore Nancy Regalbuto crossed the line in 54th after recording a time of 15.33.
Freshman Halimah Bashir was West Virginia’s top finisher in the finals of the 400 meters where she crossed the line in 20th with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 56.57. Sophomore Kenyetta Conway (44th) finished with a time of 58:15.
WVU’s top finisher in the 400 meter hurdles was freshman Rhea Mann who finished 23rd with a time of 1:03.72. Junior Pam Richardson recorded a time of 1:04.99 en route to her 28th place finish.
In Saturday’s action, West Virginia boasted its best finish of the weekend in the finals of the 200 meter dash where sophomore Junique Morris recorded a time of 24.86 en route to her seventh place finish. Sophomore Susan Davis was the Mountaineer’s lone representative in the 1,500 meters where she crossed the line in 4:48.29 on the way to a 45th place finish.
In the javelin, sophomore Lindsay Clark came through with a 10th place performance after recording a BIG EAST qualifying throw of 42.54 meters.
In the weekend’s relay events, the WVU 4x200 meter squad placed ninth with a time of 1:39.85 while the 4x800 meter team recorded a time of 9:38.22 en route to a 20th place finish.
West Virginia returns to action on Saturday, April 3, when the Mountaineers travel to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Ohio State Invitational.
