MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University gymnastics team (13-6-1) travels to Pittsburgh for the 2004 EAGL championship meet at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center on Saturday, March 20, at 6 p.m.
West Virginia, the only school in the EAGL to have had at least one individual champion every year since the league’s inception in 1996, looks to build upon its recent success with a strong finish at the meet.
The Mountaineers are led on the season by freshman Janáe Cox and senior Jessica Bartgis. In 10 meets this season, Cox has scored a 39.0 or higher in nine of them, most recently tallying a school record 39.675 in the last home meet of the season against Bowling Green. An Otisco, Ind., native, Cox is ranked 16th in the nation in the all-around competition.
Bartgis, a native of Fredrick, Md., has been equally as consistent in 2004, recording career-bests on each apparatus at least one time this season. For her career, Bartgis boasts 10 career 39.0 or higher all-around marks.
Following the EAGL championship, West Virginia will have a week off before competing in one of the six NCAA gymnastics regional meets on Saturday, April 3.
