MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men's soccer player Aaron Pitchkolan was named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic team today, Thursday Dec. 3.
"It's a great step forward for the program that we are producing that kind of player," says head coach Mike Seabolt.
Pitchkolan was also selected to take part in the adidas Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine from Jan. 8-11, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
"As a coach that is the best part of the job, seeing guys graduate, seeing guys achieve their goals and helping them get there," says Seabolt.
The senior defender from Aurora, Colo., was selected along with 65 other of college soccer's finest to showcase his skills in front of all 12 of the league's coaches and general managers for a chance to be chosen in the MLS SuperDraft on Friday, Jan. 14 in Baltimore, Md. Pitchkolan says that he is thrilled for the opportunity.
"I was extremely excited to be selected, it has been something that has been a goal of mine for a while and to finally be selected is very exciting," says Pitchkolan. "I'm training all the time and our coaches have been really helpful for me so I am fit and ready to play."
Pitchkolan started all 20 matches for the Mountaineers in 2004, recording three goals and two assists. He joins 11 other BIG EAST players at the combine.
Seabolt says that Pitchkolan possesses many qualities that pro coaches look for in players.
"He can strike a ball over long distances better than a lot of young American players, he's great in the air, he is fast enough and he is a physical presence," says Seabolt. "He also knows the game very well and is an easy guy to coach. In the pros they only want easy guys to coach especially as a young player."
