Volleyball: WVU Falls to Scarlet Knights

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The West Virginia University volleyball team closed out its weekend road trip with a 1-1 record after falling to Rutgers 3-0 (19-30, 28-30, 20-30) on Sunday, Nov. 7, in New Brunswick, N.J.
The Mountaineers (18-11, 4-4) were unable to establish themselves in game one and fell 30-19 before playing Rutgers closely in a 30-28 game two loss. The Scarlet Knights (15-9, 3-5) completed the sweep with a 30-20 victory in game three.
Junior Stephanie Zolna once again led West Virginia on the offensive end with 14 kills. Senior Alison Zemanski posted the second-best kill total with six while junior Kelly Mullins notched five.
Senior Brandice Studnicka posted 24 assists while sophomore Aurora Ebert-Santos recorded 10 digs to lead the WVU defense. Mullins and Studnicka each tallied five digs on the day.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Nov. 12, when they battle the Syracuse Orange in Syracuse, N.Y. WVU closes out the 2004 season on Sunday, Nov. 14, in a BIG EAST contest at Notre Dame.
