MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University center Gordon Malone was one of 24 players picked by the famed Harlem Globetrotters to make up its upcoming 2005 ‘World of Fun’ World Tour.
Malone joins former Mississippi forward John Jackson and Okaloosa Walton Community College forward Kei Madison as the final three picks for the team.
“These three players impressed us right away with their athleticism and personality both on and off the court,” Globetrotters owner and chairman Mannie Jackson said. “They add size, strength and experience to an already very good team. The Globetrotters are looking forward to another record-breaking season and these three should be a big part of it.”
Malone, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., averaged 11.6 points and 7.6 rebounds at West Virginia from 1995-97. Following his career at WVU, he was a second round draft pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves but failed to make the team. Malone is believed to be the second Mountaineer player to play for the Globetrotters; guard Hot Rod Hundley spent a short time with the Globetrotters in the early 1950s.
