Eight Mountaineers were ranked in the EWL’s Top 4, including two-time national champion Greg Jones. A three-time league champion, Jones is the unanimous No. 1 ranked grappler in the country at 184 pounds.
Seth Lisa (133), Brandon Lauer (141), Mike Torriero (149), Matt Lebe (157) and Zac Fryling (165) were all chosen to finish as runners-up at the EWL Championships. All five Mountaineers have made at least one NCAA tournament appearance, including an All-America season by Lauer in 2003.
Jared Villers (197) and Ryan Wilman (174) were picked to finish third and fourth, respectively. Wilman posted four wins in two league tournaments while Villers makes his EWL debut this year.
West Virginia opens its season in the Shell Building on Sunday, Nov. 7, with the 23rd annual WVU Open.
