The Mountaineers host the fifth annual Fall Showcase Camp on Saturday, Oct. 16, at noon. Athletes ages 15-18 will display their talents to Mountaineer players and coaches during an extended afternoon workout.
The final event is on Sunday, Oct. 17, as WVU players participate in the ninth annual Marathon Baseball Game. The Mountaineers will play 100 innings of baseball in a fund-raising effort that begins at noon.
West Virginia has put together a successful fall season that included 19 intrasquad scrimmages. Leading the way is all-BIG EAST performer Lee Fritz. The senior batted .459 in leading the team in hits, RBI and runs.
Also posting solid offensive numbers were freshmen Tyler Kuhn and Adrian Sykes. The duo each collected 20-plus hits while batting .361 and .309, respectively.
Veterans Todd Dunham and Chris Amedro performed well this fall leading a young pitching staff. Dunham allowed just five earned runs in 27 innings pitched for a 2.00 ERA. Amedro walked 10 and fanned 27 batters in working 29 innings on the bump.
Freshman Kenny Durst showed moments of promise on the mound for West Virginia. The lefthander scored a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings pitched.
Both remaining fall events are open to the public and admission is free.
