Volleyball: WVU Hosts Providence and Pitt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team plays host to its first home match since Sept. 12 when Providence invades the WVU Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 15, for the first of two matches on the weekend.
West Virginia (13-7, 1-0) battles the Friars at 7 p.m. Friday before returning to BIG EAST action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. match against Pitt.
WVU is coming off a 3-2 victory over St. John’s in its BIG EAST opener on Sunday, Oct. 10, in Jamaica, N.Y. The Mountaineers return home where they currently boast a 3-1 record with victories over Delaware State, High Point and Robert Morris. WVU’s lone home loss came to Bowling Green by a 3-1 margin at the WVU Invitational.
West Virginia has played 13 consecutive road matches since their last contest at home against Robert Morris. The Mountaineers finished their road trip with a 10-3 record and have won nine out of their last ten overall.
As a team, the Mountaineers lead the BIG EAST in digs per game with 17.81. The team ranks second in kills with 15.20 per game and second in opponent hitting percentage allowing a measly .157 per contest.
Individually, senior Alison Zemanski is first in the BIG EAST in blocks with 1.5 per game. The Perrysburg, Ohio, native ranks third in the conference with a hitting percentage of .368 while junior Julie Hockenson is fourth with a mark of .343. Senior Brandice Studnicka currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in assists with 11.18 per game.
