MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's soccer player Ashley Banks has been named BIG EAST rookie of the week for her efforts in two matches last week.
Banks, a native of Annandale, Va., led the Mountaineers to a 2-0 week with six points in two contests.
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, the freshman midfielder notched her fifth goal of the year in West Virginia's 6-1 win over Pitt. Banks followed that performance with a goal and two assists to lead the Mountaineers to a 4-1 win at Binghamton on Sunday, Oct. 10.
Banks is one of three Mountaineers with 18 points on the year. To date, she's scored six goals and dished out six assists in 14 starts. Her point total is the most of any Mountaineer freshman in WVU women's soccer history.
Banks and the rest of the Mountaineers will return to action at 7 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 15, in New Brunswick, N.J., for a key BIG EAST match against Rutgers at Yurcak Field. West Virginia will then play at Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m.
