Morgantown, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rowing team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 2, to compete in the Head of the Ohio.
"As this is our first race to kick off the 2004-05 rowing season, I am anxious to see how the women fare in new line-ups," says head coach Nancy LaRocque.
The Mountaineers will be looking to build on a very positive spring season in 2004. Leading the way for the team will be its seniors Donna Stullken, Meg Ayers, Kirsten Leslie and Amelia Payne.
"We have a small but hard working group this year and I expect to see some good results at our race this weekend," says LaRocque.
Along with the varsity boats LaRocque is taking her 25 new rowers, most with little or no experience, to race in novice competition.
"This will be their first racing experience and it's always great to see them go," says LaRocque.
The Head of the Ohio is a 17-year-old regatta that annually attracts over 250 team entries and 400 spectators to the banks of the Ohio river. The Three Rivers Rowing Association sponsors the event.
Results from the event will be posted on headoftheohio.com as well as row2k.com throughout the day.
