MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Three West Virginia University women's soccer players have been invited to the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., for U-19 national camp on Jan. 22-25.
As members of an Olympic Development (ODP) regional team, Mountaineers Lana Bannerman, Nicole Cauzillo and Natalie Cocchi were invited to the weekend festival where the regional squads will compete against each other. Under-19 and Under-21 national team coaches will be on hand looking to select a pool of players for both teams.
Bannerman, a Naperville, Ill., native, and Cauzillo, a native of Northville, Mich., will represent region II while Ocean Township, N.J., native Cocchi is a member of the region I team.
"This is a huge compliment to the talent each one of these girls possess," said head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. "We are very proud of them and wish them luck. All three have the skills necessary to become national team players, and we hope they get the chance to do so."
Bannerman and Cauzillo started every game for WVU as freshmen in 2003. As a goalkeeper, Bannerman posted 10 shutouts and earned the third-highest seasonal goals against average in program history (0.82). A midfielder, Cauzillo scored three goals and added two assists for eight points. Cocchi redshirted this past fall.
