MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey announced today that Amber Robinson, a 5-7 guard from North Canton, Ohio, has joined the team, effective Monday, January 12.
Robinson transferred from Dayton and will sit out the 2004 spring and fall semesters in compliance with NCAA transfer rules. She will be eligible to begin her Mountaineer career at the conclusion of the 2004 fall semester final examination week. She will have three seasons of eligibility left and is currently practicing, but cannot travel with the Mountaineers.
At Dayton, Robinson averaged 7.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in eight contests for the Flyers. She also averaged 18.1 minutes a game and added 12 steals.
Robinson was an Ohio Division I all-state second team selection at North Canton Hoover High last year as a senior after averaging 12.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. She was also a two-time first team all-county selection and was named the Federal League most valuable player, District 4 player of the year and County co-player of the year as a senior.
As a junior, Robinson guided North Canton Hoover to the Ohio Division I State Championship title and was named the tournament's MVP.
