MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach John Beilein announced today that junior Drew Schifino has been dismissed from the team for violation of team rules.

"This is a matter that will remain within the structure of the team," says Beilein. "After meeting with my staff, we felt this was the decision we had to make; this is not a knee-jerk decision. Due to federal privacy laws, I can not discuss personal matters related to student-athletes publically.

"This is an unfortunate situation, but we'll do whatever we can in helping him transfer to another school."

Schifino, a 6-foot-3 forward from Pittsburgh, averaged 17.6 points and 5.1 rebounds through 11 games this season.
