Track: WVU Closes Out Black Squirrel Classic

KENT, Ohio -- The West Virginia University women’s track team finished with two first place finishes while placing in three other events at the Black Squirrel Classic on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Kent State Field House in Kent, Ohio.
Senior sprinter Ciara Chic claimed top honors in the 60m dash with a time of 7.83.
In the 200m dash, junior Jessica Czaikowski claimed third place (25.09) while Chic (25.96) and freshman Abbie Stechshulte (26.67) finished 13th and 23rd respectively.
Freshman Halima Bashir crossed the line in eighth place (58.52) in the 400m dash while sophomore Junique Morris followed in ninth (58.83).
In the 500m dash, the tandem of Rhea Mann (1:19.70) and Kenyetta Conway (1:19.79) took third and fourth while the trio of Susan Davis (5:15.91), Rachel Carden (5:16.15) and Devon Plesuk (5:17.42) finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the mile run.
West Virginia’s other victory on the day came in 800m dash where junior Megan Metcalfe crossed the line in 2:12.17. Fellow teammate Jennifer Davis claimed fourth place in the event with a time of 2:19.45.
In the 60m hurdles, Czaikowski (8.77) and Stechshulte (9.06) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
West Virginia’s 4x400m relay team of Chic, Morris, Conway and Bashir was the final group to place for the Mountaineers as they finished with a time of 3:53.29, good enough for a second place finish.
West Virginia’s next scheduled meet is set to take place on January 30-31 when they travel to State College, Pa., to take part in the National Open.
