On injury status of Jahmile Addae:
“We are pretty sure Jahmile Addae is going to have season-ending surgery to his shoulder. The only reason I say pretty sure is because I want to talk to our trainers again. We’ll try and have the surgery as quick as we can. He has had some problems with it popping in and out of place. Our medical staff feels it is going to be an ongoing thing. It’s unfortunate because we thought he had his best summer coming into this season. Now is most likely done for the year.”
Maryland is saying the weather should be okay for Saturday:
“I heard they were going to get some bad weather on Thursday and Friday. Come Saturday is should be okay. We might change our Friday plans. Usually on Fridays we go and have a light practice at their stadium. If we think it is going to be bad, we may stay here and practice and then bus it over.”
On Anthony Mims increasing his playing time:
“Anthony has worked hard to strengthen a hamstring that slowed him early on. He has worked hard at adding some weight to his frame. He is a really good athlete. He is one of the best at the vertical leap drill, has good speed and is a coach’s son. The first couple of years he couldn’t gain any weight. He is probably more prepared now than he has ever been.”
On getting Scott McBrien to throw on the run:
“The are a lot like us in trying to get rid of the ball pretty quick. I don’t want to say we want to flush him out of the pocket because he runs pretty good. We need to get him moving around a little bit. If he gets his feet set and gets square, he is really accurate. I don’t know if we can get him to move but we need to try and do some things to disrupt him.”
Is Saturday considered a turnaround game?
“I don’t know if we refer much to last year’s game versus Maryland. I don’t know about turnaround, but we need a spark I guess. This is a big, big game for us. We need some confidence, we need a spark and we need something good to happen to us. We haven’t played well and we had some injuries. But it’s just three games and it’s a long season. I told the team yesterday that this is a marathon, not a sprint. We are going to keep working hard.”
Is Maryland a different team with Bruce Perry in there?
“Perry was player of the year in their league two years ago. He is a great ball catcher, too. He is a good back with and without the ball that gives them a lot of flexibility. He is an experienced guy, a senior who is an NFL guy. I’m sure he’ll be ready for us.”
Do you still have the confidence in Brad Cooper to kick the long field goals in games?
“I think it is a matter of confidence. And I want him to know that we have confidence in him. If we don’t think he is kicking it well in pre-game or at a certain point in a game, we might try and go for it or pin the other team down in there deep. I think it is a game-by-game thing. But I still have confidence in Brad and he has a great leg.”
