MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with Citynet, unveiled today MountaineerAthleticClub.com, a web site devoted to promoting scholarship support for WVU’s student-athletes.
MountaineerAthleticClub.com combines original MAC content with the latest digital technology and design, showcasing an easy-to-navigate layout.
The new web site describes the different programs offered by the Mountaineer Athletic Club, testimonials from current coaches and former student-athletes, updates on ongoing capital improvements, event schedules, videos, real-time polling and email updates.
“The primary purpose of this web site is to educate our fans and alumni about all of the programs the MAC offers and how they can get involved and play an integral role in our success,” said Whit Babcock, MAC executive director and assistant athletic director.
The Mountaineer Athletic Club is the fundraising arm of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Supported by businesses and individuals alike, MAC provides funds for grants-in-aid to more than 350 male and female student athletes at WVU.
Of all money contributed to MAC, 80 percent goes directly to scholarship funding and 20 percent is devoted to the ever-increasing operational costs of the 16-sport athletic program.
“This site is also a part of our effort to promote and diversify our programs beyond simply season ticket priority, golf tournaments, and endowments so that fans from all over the country, of all ages and giving potential can get involved,” said Babcock. “There is strength in numbers, and whether someone can give $100 or $100,000 we want to have an avenue for them to do that. We need the support of all who believe in WVU and what it stands for.”
