Football: Briggs Honored by AFL

NEW YORK – Dallas Desperados OL/DL TOM BRIGGS (6-5, 255, West Virginia) was selected as the 2003 Lineman of the Year as voted by the 16 head coaches of the Arena Football League. Briggs, who was named to the All-Arena First Team and All-Ironman team last week, earned his first individual honor.
In his sixth season, the former Mountaineer tallied an AFL-best 10.5 sacks while recording 41.0 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, nine pass breakups, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a safety. Briggs added four receptions for 42 yards and one touchdowns on offense.
Other players receiving votes included: Buffalo’s KEN BOUIE, Chicago’s JOHN MOYER, Georgia’s JERMAINE SMITH and Tampa Bay’s B.J. COHEN.
The Rookie of the Year will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28, while Coach of the Year honors will be announced Thursday, May 29. The following is the complete list of the Lineman of the Year award winners:
