Men's Tennis: WVU Splits Weekend Matches

STORRS, Conn. - The West Virginia University men's tennis team split its matches this weekend at Connecticut and St. John's.
WVU defeated UConn, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Storrs, Conn., to pick up their tenth victory of the season.
West Virginia swept all doubles matches to capture the doubles point, led by Tony Epkey and Ian Bliss with an 8-4 win over Mike Furman and Joe Lang at No. 1 doubles.
Eric Kochanski and Chris Green teamed up to drop Max Zubatsky and Brian Ravesloot at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, while J.R. Randall and Kyle Markham defeated UConn's Andy Sweatt and Matt Stinson at No. 3, 8-5.
Epkey, Markham and Green each won their singles matches to lead the Mountaineers.
West Virginia lost a close 4-3 match to St. John's late Friday evening, in Jamaica, N.Y.
Kochanski defeated the Red Storm's Arnaud Agnid, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles while Epkey downed Rick Ferreire, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles for WVU.
Epkey and Bliss gave the Mountaineers their lone doubles victory at No. 1 with a victory over Agnid and Jake Maxwell, 8-6.
WVU's Markham and Randall lost a tough 9-8 battle at No. 3 doubles against Todd Goldberg and Ferreire, that could have lifted West Virginia to victory.
Randall also picked up a singles victory at No. 2 for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia returns to action on Tuesday, April 15, at 1 p.m., to face BIG EAST foe Georgetown, in Washington, D.C.
