IRVINE, Calif. - The West Virginia University men's tennis team won all matches to blank Missouri-Kansas City, 7-0, Thursday morning at the Anteater Classic held at the Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Sophomore Tony Epkey continued his impressive play with a 6-1, 7-5, victory over UMKC's Evan Clark at No. 2 singles.
Epkey joined fellow sophomore Ian Bliss at No. 1 doubles to drop Clark and James Nelson, 8-3.
Eric Kochanski topped Nelson, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Bliss took care of Roberto Quintanilla at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Sophomores J.R. Randall and Julian Mesa and freshman Kyle Markham also notched singles victories for the Mountaineers.
Kochanski and senior Chris Green easily defeated Brad Scott and Surya Mundluru, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for WVU.
"We got off to a great start at doubles which is always good," said coach Ed Dickson. "I think the guys were upset with the way they played at Navy. We really played error-free tennis today."
The Mountaineers return to action at 9 a.m. (PCT), on Friday, March 28, to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, at the Anteater Tennis Stadium.
