Football: Gator Bowl a Sellout

JACKSONVILLE — Chairman Bob White announced today that the 2004 Toyota Gator Bowl, featuring West Virginia and Maryland, is sold out. This is the third consecutive year the New Year's Day Bowl game has been sold out and is the earliest sellout in the last ten years with more than 73,000 tickets sold.
Tickets have gone at record pace since both teams were invited to play in the 2004 Toyota Gator Bowl. Both teams received an original ticket allotment of 12,750 and requested additional tickets. West Virginia sold more than 7,000 additional tickets and Maryland sold more than 4,000 extra tickets.
The Mountaineers and the Terrapins will meet on New Year's Day at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The Maryland Terrapins finished their regular season with an overall record of 9-3 and finished second to Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The West Virginia Mountaineers finished their regular season with an 8-4 record and a share of the Big East title. This will be the fourth appearance by both teams in the Gator Bowl Classic.
The 59th Annual Toyota Gator Bowl featuring these two teams will be played on Jan. 1, 2004 and will be televised on NBC.
