DAYTON, Ohio – Latia Williams came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points and grab 11 rebounds and Sherell Sowho also contributed 20 to lead West Virginia to a 60-38 victory over Wright State Thursday night in Dayton.
Williams was making her first appearance since being reinstated to the team after serving a suspension for violating team rules.
West Virginia overcame a poor shooting night by two of its top players in Kate Bulger and Yolanda Paige, who combined to make just two of 22 field goal attempts for a combined five points. Overall, the Mountaineers shot just 35 percent for the game.
Sowho made nine of 18 field goal attempts including two of seven from three-point distance.
Wright State (1-4) was much worse, hitting only 15 of 57 field goal attempts for 26.3 percent. West Virginia held a 51-39 rebounding edge led by Janell Dunlap’s game-high 12 boards.
Angie Ott led the way for Wright State with 11 points.
West Virginia, now 5-1, returns to action Saturday at the WVU Coliseum against Robert Morris in a non-conference game that will get underway at 4 pm.
