EVANSTON, Ill. – Ifeoma Okonkwo scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Northwestern to a 60-57 victory over West Virginia Tuesday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcats (4-3) also got 10 points from Melissa Culver to get over the .500 mark for the first time this year.
Northwestern held a sizable 43-29 rebounding edge, overcoming a 5 of 17 shoting performance from three-point distance.
West Virginia, now 6-3, got 20 points from Sherell Sowho. The senior hit 8 of 17 field goal attempts including 4 of 9 from three-point range.
Kate Bulger contributed 11 for the slumping Mountaineers, losers of their last two road games. West Virginia shot a frigid 39.1 percent from the floor and managed to take just one free throw compared to 12 by Northwestern.
Yolanda Paige contributed 10 assists to go with 7 points for WVU.
Northwestern led 27-22 at halftime.
West Virginia remains on the road for a Saturday matchup against Duquesne in Pittsburgh Saturday. That contest will get underway at 6:35 pm.
