MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five West Virginia University football players were named to the ESPN.com all-Big East team picked by Big East writer Jorge Milian, it was posted on the web site today.
Senior running back Quincy Wilson, sophomore wide receiver Chris Henry and freshman offensive guard Dan Mozes were named to the offensive team, while senior linebacker Grant Wiley and senior safety Brian King were picked to the defensive team.
West Virginia’s Rich Rodriguez was Milian’s pick for Big East coach of the year. Wrote Milian: “It’s time for the college football world woke up and recognized the coaching gem residing in Morgantown. If not for a two-point loss to Miami, Rodriguez would be a top candidate for national coach of the year honors.”
Milian also called West Virginia the conference’s biggest surprise of the year, “After winning nine games and finishing second in the Big East in 2002, many expected a sizable dropoff for West Virginia, especially with the departure of tailback Avon Cobourne and several starting offensive and defensive linemen. But West Virginia rebounded in grand style, winning their last seven games and capturing a share of the Big East title for the first time since 1993.”
