Somerset, N.J. -- West Virginia University senior women's soccer player Lisa Stoia was named BIG EAST midfielder of the year for the second consecutive season.
Stoia, a Shirley, N.Y. native, is the first player in conference history to win midfielder of the year honors in back-to-back seasons.
A senior, Stoia leads the Mountaineers with eight assists this season and is two shy of the WVU all-time assists record. She is also third on the team with six goals in 2003.
A first-team all-BIG EAST selection for the second consecutive season as well, Stoia was joined on the conference's first-team by fellow senior Chrissie Abbott and junior forward Laura Kane. Abbott, the 2002 BIG EAST offensive player of the year, is a two-time first-team honoree while Kane was a second-team all-conference selection as a sophomore.
Freshman Nicole Cauzillo was named to the BIG EAST all-rookie team, marking the eighth consecutive season that West Virginia has had at least one member named to the squad.
The awards were handed out Thursday evening at the conference's annual women's soccer championship banquet.
No. 7 West Virginia will face No. 22 Villanova on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m., in the second BIG EAST semifinal match at Rutgers' Yurcak Field.
CSTV will be airing the match on a next-day tape delay at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 8.
An audio broadcast will be available on MSNsportsNET.com.
Should West Virginia advance to the championship on Sunday, Nov. 9, at noon, the Mountaineers will face either Boston College or Notre Dame.
Fox Sports Pittsburgh will air the championship match on a same-day delay at 1 p.m., on Sunday.
