MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University junior cross country runners Megan Metcalfe and Tara Struyk have automatically qualified to compete in the 2003 NCAA Championships at Northern Iowa University on Monday, Nov. 24, in Waterloo, Iowa.
Metcalfe and Struyk received automatic bids after finishing sixth and eighth respectively in the mid-Atlantic regional championship on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Lock Haven, Pa.
As a team, the Mountaineers finished one spot outside of qualifying for nationals for the second consecutive season. Individually, Metcalfe will look to take All-American honors for the second season in a row while Struyk will look to achieve the recognition for the first time in her career. The top 35 finishers in the NCAA Championships receive All-American recognition.

"I'm disappointed we didn't make nationals as a team, but I'm extremely happy for both Megan (Metcalfe) and Tara (Struyk) and the hard work they have put forth for this opportunity," coach Jeff Huntoon said. "They are both looking forward to the opportunity to go out next week and compete at the highest level."
Monday's race is expected to get underway at approximately 12:15 p.m. (CST).
