Volleyball: WVU Falls to Syracuse

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The WVU volleyball team was defeated by BIG EAST foe Syracuse, 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 38-36), in their final match of the season, Sunday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
After the Orangewomen captured the first two games, both squads engaged in an epic battle for game three, trading points till the score was nodded at 36 apiece. Syracuse's Katie Allen and Jessica Logan racked up consecutive kills to send the Mountaineers to a heartbreaking 38-36 loss to end the match.
Sophomore Stephanie Zolna had match-highs of 17 kills and 19 digs to lead the Mountaineer attack while Brandice Studnicka had 44 assists and seven digs on the day.
Julie Hockenson notched 13 kills and a .308 hitting percentage for West Virginia and junior Alison Zemanski tallied nine kills and four blocks.
Syracuse's Kristen Conway paced her team with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Mountaineer seniors Jennifer Hayhurst, Dimitra Havriluk and Kristi King were honored prior to the match.
WVU finished the season with a 6-21 overall record and a 2-10 mark in the BIG EAST.
