The West Virginia University women's cross country team finished fifth out of 26 teams at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the West Branch Cross Country Course in Lock Haven, Pa.
Georgetown finished first with 56 points, Princeton second with 78, Villanova third with 98, Penn State fourth with 104 and West Virginia fifth with 118.
Leading the way for the Mountaineers were juniors Megan Metcalfe who finished sixth overall and Tara Struyk who crossed the line in 8th. As a result of their outstanding performance, the two were recognized by the NCAA as all mid-Atlantic region runners.
"I'm really happy with the way our girls competed today," coach Jeff Huntoon said. "As a result of today's high finish in the regional championship I feel extremely confident in our chances to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week."
The Mountaineers will now wait for the official announcement to be made on Sunday, Nov. 16, concerning their position in this year's NCAA Championships in Cedar Falls, IA.
