Women's Soccer: WVU Begins Homestand

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No.6 West Virginia University women's soccer team (10-2-0) begins a three-match homestand with a Friday night contest against BIG EAST foe Rutgers (7-3-3) on Oct. 10, at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Rutgers enters Friday's match with WVU having tied Princeton on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The Scarlet Knights battled back from a 2-0 deficit to send the contest into overtime, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the extra periods and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
West Virginia last played on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Georgetown where they posted their seventh shutout of the season, 2-0 at North Kehoe Field. Junior forward Laura Kane scored both of WVU's goals in the contest, the first off a free kick and the second on a header.
On the year, the Mountaineers are led by Hermann Trophy candidate Chrissie Abbott. A North Olmsted, Ohio, native, Abbott boasts nine goals and three assists for 21 points.
Rutgers is paced by junior Carli Lloyd. In 13 matches, the midfielder has eight goals, five of which have been game-winners.
In the series between the two schools, the Mountaineers own a 4-2-1 all-time advantage over the Scarlet Knights.
Following Friday night's match, West Virginia will play host to visiting Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers will round out their three-game homestand with a non-conference match against Radford on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
