MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team suffered its second straight loss, dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 25 Boston College Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Mountaineers found themselves in a hole early as Guy Melamed booted a free kick to Neil Krause who headed the ball past freshman Nick Noble in the fifth minute of play.
In the 47th minute the Eagles would extend their lead to two as Krause scored his second header goal of the game. Senior Paul Chase grabbed a rebound and served it to a waiting Krause who found the back of the net.
After giving up 14 shots in the first half the WVU defense tightened up to allow only four in the second half. However, the offense could never get moving as they fired only four shots in the first half and five in the second.
Eagles goalkeeper Mike Cardenas collected the shutout win. The senior was forced to make only one save in 90 minutes of play.
Noble and fellow freshman Adam Shutler split time in goal for the Mountaineers. Noble allowed both goals and recorded three saves in 47 minutes of play while Shutler shutout the Eagles with one save in 43 minutes of action.
The loss against Boston College marks only the second time this season that the team has dropped two games in a row.
The loss drops the Mountaineers to 4-6-1 and 2-3-1 in BIG EAST play. The Eagles improve to 5-4-1 and 3-2-1 in the conference.
WVU continues its four game road trip when they face the Syracuse Orangemen on Friday, Oct. 10. Kickoff at SU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
