Saturday’s game is Homecoming and there is no local television for the game. Former Mountaineer football coach Don Nehlen will serve as parade marshal for Friday night’s Homecoming parade. Also, several prominent former Mountaineer players including all-pro linebacker Darryl Talley, quarterback Oliver Luck and linebacker Dennis Fowlkes will be at the game as part of a reunion organized by Luck and defensive lineman Dave Oblak getting together Eastern Ohio players recruited by former WVU assistant coach Gary Stevens.
The Mountaineer Ticket Office is still accepting orders for today’s game and tickets can be purchased by calling toll-free 1-800-WVU GAME. The stadium ticket office will be open 11 am and walk-up orders will also be accepted.
Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
Here is Saturday’s Countdown to Kickoff:
10 – Wide receiver Chris Henry’s four-catch, 176-yard performance against Rutgers on Oct. 11 was the TENTH-best receiving performance in school history. WVU’s top pass-catching effort was a nine-grab, 205-yard game by Rashaan Vanterpool against Pitt in 1994.
9 – Quincy Wilson’s 355 rushing yards produced in consecutive games against Rutgers and Virginia Tech is the NINTH-highest total in school history. The most rushing yards in back-to-back games was produced by Avon Cobourne last year against Cincinnati and East Carolina when he ran for 453 yards.
8 – West Virginia (3-4) will be playing its EIGHTH game of the season Saturday against Central Florida.
7 – Senior linebacker Grant Wiley has produced 10 more tackles in all SEVEN games this season. Wiley had a season high of 18 tackles at Miami and leads the team with 93 total stops.
6 – There are SIX football players with ties to the WVU program celebrating birthdays this week. The are Geoff Lewis and Adam Lehnortt (Oct. 27), Zac Napier (Oct. 28), Milo Austin and former WVU linebacker Barrett Green (Oct. 29), and Chris Malamet (Nov. 2).
5 – West Virginia has had FIVE plays covering 59 yards or longer this season, including three consecutive games completing a pass of 80 yards or longer.
4 – West Virginia has now had FOUR scoring drives covering 10 plays or more. The most plays used on a scoring drive was 13, done twice against Wisconsin and Rutgers.
3 – West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez picked up his THIRD victory against a ranked team last Wednesday night when the Mountaineers defeated No. 3-rated Virginia Tech. Rodriguez’ other wins against ranked teams came against Virginia Tech and Pitt last season.
2 – West Virginia quarterback Rasheed Marshall ranks SECOND on the school career rushing list for quarterbacks with 1,023 yards. Marshall still needs 1,339 yards to pass Major Harris, who ran for 2,161 yards from 1987-89.
1 – Saturday’s expected high temperature of 72 degrees is just ONE degree less than the game-time temperature of 73 degrees for West Virginia’s season-opening game against Wisconsin on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Enjoy Saturday’s game and be sure to stop back afterward for complete postgame coverage.
