A WVU coach and players will present a 30-minute program to interested young people discussing academics, homework study skills, college entrance tests, selecting a major, and athletic opportunities and expectations, followed by a question-and-answer period. Information about "Operation Outreach" was mailed to school principals this week.
"We were looking for a way of impacting young people throughout the state; that was the start of Operation Outreach," says WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez. "Some of the most impressionable years are in junior high and middle school, and we wanted those students to interact with our players and coaches while learning about achieving goals, improving their academic and athletic skills, and encouraging them to future success.
"It’s well-known that young people who are involved in extracurricular activities - whether that’s sports, band, drama, student government - are likely to have future success. We want to play a first-hand role in encouraging that, as well as promote West Virginia University."
