Swimming: Men Win; Women Fall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - All-Big East junior Kleyton Franca notched three individual victories to lead the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team (7-4) over St. Bonaventure, 138-105, Sunday afternoon at the WVU Natatorium.
Despite several solid swims, the WVU women's squad (6-6) fell to the Bonnies, 142-97.
Franca was victorious in the 1650, 200 and 500 freestyle events while sophomore Pedro Pinto placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.67.
Sophomore Matt Drozd swam a 21.43 in the 50 free and 46.51 in the 100 free to place first in each event. Freshman Richard Mann added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.77.
The 400 medley relay squad of freshman Michael Crabtree, juniors Can Eter and Travis Watson, and sophomore Thomas Fletcher stopped the clocks at 3:31.17 to claim victory.
The women's team was paced by freshman Megan Carlson, who placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:11.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.06).
Junior Devlyn Quinn notched a win in the 200 free with a 1:55.93 while freshman Ashley Bissett swam a 5:12.39 in the 500 free to place first.
Sophomore diver Kristen Moffatt scored a 233.40 on the three-meter boards for West Virginia.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, to take on Big Eastrival Virginia Tech, at 1 p.m., in Blacksburg, Va.
