Swimming and Diving: WVU Falls at Pitt

The West Virginia University swimming and diving team lost its dual meet with conference rival Pitt on Saturday afternoon at the Trees Pool.
The women's squad (6-4) was defeated 197-43 while the men's team (5-4) dropped a 185-58 decision.
Top performances for the women included two second-place finishes in the one and three-meter boards by sophomore Kristen Moffatt with scores of 216.60 and 225.30.
All-BIG EAST junior Devlyn Quinn placed third in the 100 freestyle with a 54.39 while freshman Megan Carlson notched a third-place finish with a 2:25.31 in the 200 breaststroke.
The 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Livia Cascao, junior Lee Ann Johnston, Quinn and freshman Olga Tzinker stopped the clocks at 3:40.18 to place second in the event.
Sophomore Matt Drozd led the way for the men's squad, placing first with a 21.13 in the 50 freestyle for the Mountaineers' lone victory of the day. Drozed also claimed second in the 100 free.
All-conference junior Kleyton Franca settled for second place in the 200 freestyle after he was edged by eleven-hundreds of a second by Pitt's Michael Grube.
Sophomore Pedro Pinto notched second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and the 200 butterfly events.
Franca, Drozd, junior Travis Watson and sophomore Thomas Fletcher stopped the clocks at 3:09.87 in the 400 freestyle relay to place second.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, January 18, at 1:00 p.m., to face BIG EAST foe Syracuse, at the WVU Natatorium.
