MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team begins its 2003 campaign at EAGL rival Pitt in a tri-meet with Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m., in Fitzgerald Field House.
The Mountaineers enter the match looking to build off their 22-6 overall record from last season.
West Virginia returns three powerful seniors in TeShawne Jackson, Dinorh Boyd and Amanda Halovanic. Jackson is one 9.9 or better score away from earning the school record in that category. With a 9.9 or better score on vault, Jackson will also move into a tie with former Mountaineer Kristin Quackenbush for the school record.
WVU is 39-18 all-time in season openers. Nine of West Virginia's season-opening meets have come against Pitt, including the program's inaugural meet in 1974. The Mountaineers lead the overall series with the Panthers 29-12-1. Against Ball State, WVU is 5-1-0 all-time.
