MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Whit Babcock has been named Assistant Athletic Director and Executive Director of Development for Athletics at West Virginia University, it was announced today by Ed Pastilong, director of athletics, and F. Duke Perry, president of the WVU Foundation, Inc.
Babcock, who will assume his duties on November 1, will be responsible for the overall fundraising efforts of WVU’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Babcock comes to WVU from Auburn University, where he served five years as assistant athletic director for development, director of athletic development and assistant director of athletic development. Before that, he spent one year as assistant director of athletic development and marketing at James Madison University. At Auburn, he supervised an athletic development program that generated between $12-14 million annually while serving on the executive planning committee for Auburn’s $80 million capital campaign for athletics.
A 1992 James Madison graduate, Babcock earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports studies. He was a four-year JMU baseball letterman and served as team captain his senior year.
Babcock received a master’s degree in sport management from West Virginia University in 1996.
"We are excited to have Whit back on the WVU campus in this new role," says Pastilong. "This demonstrates our commitment to expanding our revenues for the athletic program through private contributions."
A native of Harrisonburg, Va., Babcock and his wife Kelly have one son, Drew.
