Rifle: Shooters Still Undefeated

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior shooter Nicole Allaire fired a 393 standing in smallbore to tie West Virginia University’s school record and lead the Mountaineers (4-0, 4-0) to a victory over Army (3-3, 2-2) and Mississippi (2-5, 0-4) this afternoon at the Tronsrue Marksmanship range in West Point, N.Y. The record was initially set by Ann-Marie Pfiffner in 1991 and then tied by Marcos Scrivner in 1997.
The Mountaineers fired a season-high team score of 6214 to defeat the Black Knights, 6171, and the Rebels, 6060.
WVU shot a combined score of 4672 in smallbore while Army fired a 4648 and Old Miss shot a 4546. Junior Jon Hammond shot a new personal best of 1170 and Allaire’s combined smallbore score of 1183 tied her personal best. Senior Wade Tyner (1156) and junior Eric Hensil (1163) completed the smallbore squad.
In the air rifle competition, the team of Allaire (393), senior Josh Byers (377), Hensil (384) and senior Gary Longwell (388) fired a team score of 1542. WVU freshmen Brian Launer shot a 390 and Gareth Gold fired a 384, both personal bests. The Black Knights recorded a 1523 while the Rebels fired a 1514.
The Mountaineers will host their first home match of the year on Saturday, December 7 at the WVU Rifle Range beginning at 8:00 a.m.
