Rifle: Mountaineer Open Day One

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshmen shooters Amber Crist and Jon Hammond of the West Virginia University rifle team fired personal bests this afternoon during the Mountaineer Open at the WVU Rifle Range in Morgantown, W.Va.
Crist shot a 394 in air rifle to top her previous high of 392. An Aberdeen, Scotland, native Hammond fired a 1168 to record his first ever smallbore score.
"I feel this is a good start to our season," Coach Marsha Beasley said. "I am very excited that we shot some solid scores and two newcomers had personal bests."
The Mountaineers' smallbore team of Nicole Allaire (1177), Josh Byers(1165), Gary Longwell(1150) and Wade Tyner(1169) recorded a team score of 4661. Allaire(391), Longwell(385), Eric Hensil(388) and Brian Launer(378) fired an air team score of 1542 to give the Mountaineers' a team total of 6203.
The Acorns Club from Fairfax, Va., and the Romney 4-H Club from Romney, W.Va. are also competing in the two-day tournament.
Competition resumes on Sunday, November 3, at 9:00 a.m. Team scores will be available at the conclusion of the tournament.
