West Virginia travels to Philadelphia Friday morning, arriving in time for an afternoon workout at Veterans Stadium. There is no live television for tomorrow’s game but fans can follow MSN’s game coverage beginning at 11:30 am.
Here is Saturday’s Countdown to Kickoff:
10 – With last year’s 17-14 victory in Morgantown, Temple snapped West Virginia’s TEN-game win streak against the Owls. Prior to that win, the last time Temple defeated West Virginia was at Veterans Stadium in 1984.
9 – Temple quarterback Mike McGann has thrown NINE touchdown passes this year. The 6-foot-6 sophomore has completed 111-of-229 passes for 1,331 yards and an average of 166.4 yards per game.
8 – Temple has EIGHT players on its roster that can bench press more than 400 pounds, according to this week’s Temple news release. They are Joe Laudano, Luis Lumpris, Donny Klein, Frank McAndrew, Terrence Belvin, Anthony Nembhard, Jose Portillo and David Terry.
7 – With just 97 yards rushing Saturday against Temple, Mountaineer running back Avon Cobourne will jump SEVEN spots to 19th on the NCAA all-time rushing list passing North Carolina State’s Ted Brown who gained 4,602 yards from 1975-78.
6 – Avon Cobourne has rushed for more than 100 yards in SIX straight games. The only game he has failed to rush for more than 100 yards was at Wisconsin when he gained 79 yards on 18 carries.
5 – West Virginia defensive back Angel Estrada has produced 10 or more tackles in FIVE games this year. His season-best total was 14 tackles two weeks ago in a win against Syracuse.
4 – Temple has lost only FOUR times in 14 games when running back Tanardo Sharps runs for more than 100 yards in a game. The Owls are 2-0 the last two times Sharps has reached 100 yards against Syracuse and Connecticut.
3 – West Virginia quarterback Rasheed Marshall has scored a rushing touchdown in his last THREE straight games. Marshall has rushed for seven TDs so far this year and has accounted for 15 overall.
2 – Avon Cobourne ranks SECOND in the nation in rushing this week with an average of 147.1 yards per game. Colorado’s Chris Brown leads the nation with an average of 162.9 yards per game.
